About the Artist

As a choreographer, dancer, Mellon postdoctoral Fellow at Washington University in St Louis, Ting-Ting Chang specializes in Chinese dance/theatre/martial art movements in addition to her contemporary modern dance background. She has explored the aesthetics, visual images, and spiritual strengths of her Chinese ancestry, and her movement discipline is a creative process that is both traditional and postmodern. She has worked with renowned choreographers such as Victoria Marks (APPEX project: Ah-Q), Donald McKayle (UCI), Takuya Muramatsu (ADF), Cheng-Chieh Yu (Yu Dance Theatre), Tsai Li-Hua (Taipei Folk Dance Theatre), among others. Her education includes an MFA in dance from UC Irvine and a BA in World Arts and Culture from UCLA. She was awarded the Choreography Excellence Award in the 2004 China National Dance Competition, and among 145 professional work submissions from Europe and North America in 2007, her choreography, "Falling Petals," won the 10th Annual Dance Under the Stars Choreography Festival at the McCallum Theatre. "Falling Petals" was also selected for the 2009 ACDFA Gala, and will be featured in DreamDance's 2010 season. As she continues to evolve with her choreography, Chang is open to collaborate with the dancers/artists to further develop the concepts in the creation of "Falling Petals."
